ONE-PARAGRAPH BRIEF ON SOLOMON OYELEYE
Graduate of Communication and Language Arts from the University of Ibadan, with specialisation in applied communication. Research interests cover health communication, media and journalism studies, particularly the confluence of ownership and hegemony dynamics in Nigerian media space, conflict reporting, indigenous and political communication .Worked as professional journalist from 1997 till 2019, traversing editorial, marketing and advertising functions to garner a rich experience that has become useful in training students since joining the academia in early 2019. Participated actively in developing current Training Manual for the Federal Ministry of Health/UNICEF Training Programme on Advocacy and Social Mobilization for Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS (PMTCT) in Nigeria and used same to train several other Trainers and members of Social Mobilisation Action Teams (SMAT) in several states of the federation. One of two Nigerian scholars selected for the ‘Teaching Disinformation Studies in Higher Ed Workshop organized by Social Science Research Council (SSRC)’ March 19, 2021. Was joint winner of the 2021 Unicef/IAMCR Communication for Development Grant on Trust and Mistrust in Communication during the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria. Has published in national and international peer reviewed journals. Associate Pastor with Dominion Life Bible Church, Ilorin since December 2005 with current responsibilities of leading the Young Peoples Ministry of the church and coordinating all external publications of the church. Served as Acting Head, Department of Mass Communication (December 2020-October2024). Currently Deputy Dean (Students Affairs) and Acting Director, Parents Engagements and Alumni Relations.
