Sophia is a Queen Elizabeth Scholar Alumnus of the Institute of African Studies, Carleton University, Canada. She recently took up an appointment as a lecturer at the College of Law, Caleb University, Lagos State. Sophia has been a Senior Research Fellow of the Hydrogen Research Institute at Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti, Ekiti State and the Managing Partner at Georgetown Solicitors, a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA UK and Nigeria), and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, United Kingdom. She obtained a first degree in Law with Honors from Delta State University, masters in Law from the University of Lagos, and a PhD in Law with a focus in Corporate Governance and Sustainability of Businesses from Babcock University. She has varied experience in active legal practice. With a strong commercial-law background, Sophia has been company secretary and external solicitor to several local and foreign companies. She has reviewed various Nigerian and international statutes. She has advised and represented major local, multinationals and foreign companies. Sophia has worked with the Kwara State House of Assembly as a Legal Adviser to several of its committees. She also advised at plenary legislative sessions, reviewed laws, and prepared legislative bills and drafts. She served as one of the Arbitrators in a Federal High Court ordered Arbitration Panel with respect to management of estate facilities. She was sworn in by the Chief Judge of Lagos State as a Notary Public of Federal Republic of Nigeria in October 2014. She has attended and participated in several local and international conferences, workshops, forums and seminars in various disciplines. Some of which are; Forensic Analysis Training organized by the United States Government in Conjunction with the Lagos State Government; the International Finance Corporation (IFC)- ICSAN Corporate Governance Training and the Transnational International Energy Arbitration in Houston Texas in the United States of America. She is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Ikeja Branch and International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Lagos Branch. She is a member of the Professional Development Committee and Business Forum NBA Ikeja Branch and has served as a member of the Public Practice; Law Reform and Membership and Branch Liaison Committees of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries & Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN). She has also served in the positions of Mobilization Secretary and Publicity Secretary of ICSAN Lagos State Chapter between; 2009-2018. Sophia’s specialties include Corporate Governance, Individual and Business Sustainability, Immigration, Arbitration, Taxation and Energy Law. Sophia is also involved in several volunteer and charitable activities, some of which are; Association of Women in Governance, Eyeround Foundation, Hurlag Humanitarian-Aid Foundation, and Give Hope to Kidney Foundation – a Non-Government Organization (NGO) set up to alleviate the suffering of indigent kidney transplant patients, where she is a Trustee and Secretary to the Boards of Trustees. Sophia has recently carried out over 14 programs under her Carleton University Queen Elizabeth Scholar Community Engagement programs within the last 12 months in Nigeria where she carried out free programs to advocate for raising Future leaders in Secondary Schools, Preparing for Global Opportunities in the academia and industry, Mentorship programs and organized free seminars on strategies on Business and Individual Sustainability. Sophia has a strong passion for assisting women, youths and children in dire need of support. She loves to serve and meet people. She is happily married and blessed with biological children.
